講座內容:
Chinese economy is a good example, it is not only vast inside the country, but also globally. This is largely due to the various roles and effects that the overseas Chinese, i.e. the global Chinese diaspora has had in connecting businesses, places and investments. Diaspora refers to people living in dispersion who maintain relations with their country of origin, for example, international migrants and their descendants who stay connected with their homeland. These connections may have various contents that have economic impacts. Global diasporas are shaping economic places, like the case of Silicon Valley indicates. Diasporans act as managers, investors and entrepreneurs in the international arena and interconnect economic actors. Diasporas may benefit both sending and receiving economies on multiple ways. They role as active citizens and human capital bring needed skills and "brain" to the new context, for numerous purposes: for improving the population pyramid and special demands, for intensifying bilateral economic relations, for fostering innovation and knowledge transfer, for boosting entrepreneurship, but also for internationalising firms. This "brain" is also referred to as talent and highly skilled migrants. In global economy, the circulation of this brain is a heated debated. The purpose of this session is to discuss these effects and their economic interconnectedness.
